Today's scripture lesson hand out and quote

I teach the 14-15 year old class in Sunday School.  Sometimes it has been frustrating for them to see things like I do!!! (Surprise, surprise...it does help that I teach Jr. High every day! and so I get it, but it's even harder at church...no grades, or anything to help them want to do what they should, except pure desire...that's the fun part...getting the desire to be a desire!)

Today we're reading the scriptures (obviously) and I want them to realize how important they are and how much they can get out of them.  If they read them regularly, we will get a lot out of them.   I'm giving them a giant jaw breaker (lots of sugar, but lots of fun too! each child to should experience this at least one time in their life!) and they are "supposed to" read their scriptures while eating their jawbreaker, or at least think about reading their scriptures while eating their jawbreakers. We'll see how it goes.So this is my handout for them today:

“Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high.”           --Elder Richard G. Scott

Every time you eat your jaw breaker, think of how profound and deep the doctrines of the scriptures are.  Just like the depth of the jawbreaker, the scriptures have depth and layers to them.  The more you read, the deeper you’ll go.
